Alhavi Pharmaceutical Company
Alhavi Pharmaceutical Company was established in May 1968 under the name Park Davis on a 22,000‑square‑meter site located at kilometer 12 of the Karaj Special Road. In 1982, the company was renamed Alhavi, inspired by “Al‑Hawi fi al‑Tibb”, the great medical encyclopedia written by Persian scholar Zakariya al‑Razi (Rhazes).
Razi dedicated 15 years of his life to composing this monumental work and, according to historical accounts, lost his eyesight during this effort. A Latin translation of Al‑Hawi was later completed in the Vatican in 15 volumes. Alongside Avicenna’s Canon of Medicine, Al‑Hawi remained one of Europe’s most authoritative medical references until the early twentieth century.
This encyclopedia encompasses medical knowledge from ancient times up to Razi’s own period, including interpretations of earlier physicians, diagnoses of diseases, and detailed explanations of treatments. It also contains Razi’s personal and clinical experiences accumulated during his years of medical practice in Baghdad and Ray.
